The Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) is one of the most important rate indicators for containerized sea freight and is based on the current spot rates from shipping companies on 13 of the most used shipping routes, as well as a summarized overall index; it is calculated weekly, expressed in USD per TEU (exception USA: FEU), refers to the arrival ports in Europe of Rotterdam, Hamburg, Antwerp, Felixstowe, and Le Havre, includes cost components such as BAF/FAF, EBS, CAF/YAS, PSS, WRS, PCS, and SCS, is accessible via a paid link, and applies to the Europe direction exclusively for the main Chinese ports, which is why additional surcharges must be considered for other loading ports in the Far East.
