Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)

Abbreviation for Electronic Data Interchange, in German: Elektronischer Datenaustausch. EDI offers the possibility of standardized, electronic exchange of business documents (for example invoices, orders, item catalogs, etc.) between companies, often via an existing ERP system. The exchange works automatically, without manual intervention. Through EDI, data can be exchanged independently of inventory management systems and formats.
