ERP

ERP stands for 'Enterprise Resource Planning' and refers to the business process of planning and managing resources according to demand and as efficiently as possible. The goal of ERP is to optimize operational processes and the associated value creation process. For manufacturing companies in particular, a successful ERP is essential to ensure that all materials needed for production are available in sufficient quantities and at the right time.

Incorrectly, ERP is often used synonymously with ERP systems. However, while one refers to the business process itself, the other encompasses the technical implementation through IT solutions. In today's business world, ERP can hardly be realized without technical aids. An ERP system takes over the resource planning and management of all business processes and operational areas of a company, such as procurement, production, sales, logistics, etc. All functions are interconnected through a common platform.

More and more providers are also relying on ERP clouds. This allows external access to the ERP system without the need to run the necessary programs locally. This enables global access and also allows for the integration of customers or suppliers. These can be directly involved in the processes via ERP cloud, for example, to schedule deliveries or adjust quantities. Advantages of using ERP clouds include rapid and therefore more cost-effective implementation as well as flexible application of the technology.
