Intelligent Containers
The Internet of Things reveals entirely new possibilities: Smart pallets, shipping boxes, and containers are increasingly making their way into logistical practice. Using RFID technology, the goods are recorded during loading and take on certain functions, such as temperature monitoring, through intelligent configuration until unloading. Real-time localization of the cargo using GPS is no longer a significant challenge today. Intelligent containers, for example, have an integrated 'monitoring center' that is directly connected to the logistics center. In addition to monitoring location, temperature, and humidity, it is also possible to monitor the container door with intrusion sensors or to detect explosive substances and biological agents.
Intelligent containers can also uncover unused potential and improve the quality of the supply chain. Unutilized packing capacities are reported directly by the container, and delivery delays, interruptions, or accidents can be registered.
