Software as a Service (SaaS) is a sector of cloud computing. In this case, an external IT service provider operates software and IT infrastructure on central servers. Companies can purchase access to and use of the stored software. The user can then access the data at any time and from anywhere via the Internet.

The advantages of SaaS are that companies do not have to provide or maintain the infrastructure. This saves time and costs during implementation. However, there are monthly costs depending on usage intensity and the service booked. Storing data on an external server, outside of one's own company, is still a very sensitive topic for many companies.
