Cloud and Platforms Relevant for Data Exchange and Transparency in SCM

The surveyed companies consider the use of digital technology to be significant in improving collaboration in the supply chain. Solutions are needed that enable simplified exchange of information and data among cooperation partners. Larger companies particularly agree with this. In organizations with 250 to 1,000 employees, the potential of platform solutions, cloud applications and ERP systems is rated highly. In this size category, a total of 92 percent of respondents attribute a very high (42 percent) or high (50 percent) importance to cloud computing and platform solutions that can contribute to a common communication architecture. Across all company sizes, 51 percent say the same. The same applies to the question of the impact on the efficiency level of cross-company collaboration: Control tools such as IT platforms are rated as crucial for success by 83 percent of respondents in companies with 250 to 1,000 employees. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems are seen as a significant technology for optimizing collaboration by half of the respondents in organizations with 50 to 250 employees, while in companies with 250 to 1,000 employees, it is 83 percent. Here too, it is evident that the importance of technology use is rated higher with company size. If the cooperative integration of information and the exchange of data within the supply chain is hindered by the incompatibility of IT systems and data formats, this represents a major obstacle for companies according to their own statements. Overall, more than half of the respondents (56 percent) agree with this statement. This is confirmed especially by around 75 percent of those responsible in larger organizations.
